What's Love Got to Do with It?

March 26, 2019

Oh how I remember the days of my mother trying to get me in the kitchen and me wanting to be everywhere but.  Because of my resistance, I burned food, measured incorrectly, or just plain didn't put all of the ingredients in.  On occasion, my dish was successful, but didn't seem to taste quite like my mothers.

I asked my mom "why?".  If I had done everything right, why had my efforts not yielded the reward of a delectable dish?  Her response was simple. I'd forgotten the most important, although unlisted ingredient, love.

Lesson learned!. Whenever I'm in the kitchen, I always start with L-O-V-E!

Love: An Ingredient for Life!

April 9, 2019

As I said in my last love note, L-O-V-E has everything to do with cooking and baking. More importantly it seasons our lives.

February is a month known for love. As couples all over take the time to celebrate one another. I surmise that the season of Easter is an even greater time of celebration because we take the time to remember the sacrifice of Jesus, the one who loved us all the most.

This year of 2019, let us not only reflect on the impact of that great love in our lives, but let us be willing to take a cupful of that love and add it to the lives of others.

Celebrating A Mother's Love

May 12, 2019

On this day, I reflect on my life with my mother.  I'm struck by the one thing I find to be consistent throughout and that is her loving care. She tends to her family, worked in the market place and always seem to have time to put home cooked meals on the table. She is the Proverbs 31 woman.  She's a Wonderful role model and I honor her today.

For those of you who are still able, I encourage you to spend this day loving on her. Embrace her, do for her, and remind her how grateful you are.  Even if our relationship with your mom is challenged, take this day to just lay those differences aside and appreciate if for no other reason than she gave you life.  That is love.

Strength of A Father

June 16, 2019

My family and I were recently discussing how interesting it is that Father's Day general does not seem to have the same pomp and circumstance of Mother's Day. Restaurants are not as booked, greeting cards don't seem to be as plentiful and diverse and the general atmosphere is not all a buzz in the same manner.

After much debate, I concluded that Father's Day is celebrated more in line with how fathers are.  They are strong, they are silent a lot of times, and don't make a lot of fuss about things. A wonderfully cooked meal at home be it from the grill or from the kitchen seems to delight the heart of a father.  Just being in the presence of family and being able to enjoy the excitement, laughter, and love seems to resonate in the heart of a father.  I can say that's the simplicity that my dad seems to enjoy most --- and we demonstrate our love by giving him just what he wants.  After all, it is Father's Day.
